Current Obsession- Acai Bowls

For those of you who have never experienced the joy of eating an acai bowl before, I am truly sorry. Acai bowls are a satisfying and guilt-free treat that can serve as a meal replacement or a snack. Acai berries, which are only grown in Brazil, are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and loads of healthy amino and fatty acids that will leave you feeling full and ready to take on the day. If you’re like me, and don’t feel like spending $8+ on one of these yummy bowls, you can make them at home pretty easily. You can do this by combining either acai juice, powder, or frozen smoothie packs (my personal fave!) with your favorite frozen ingredients and some type of liquid, like almond milk. You can use fresh (not frozen) ingredients too, but to get a thicker, more ice-cream like texture I recommend frozen ingredients. Once you’re done, top off your bowl with your favorite healthy toppings- like granola, fresh fruit, and hemp or chia seeds. Here’s a list of all of the best acai bowl tips and tricks from my experience: If you’re trying to get a few more vitamins in, blend in some kale or spinach. No need to worry, the acai berry’s sweetness will mask the vegetable-y taste! Frozen bananas are a great way to add extra creamy-ness to your bowl (and get more potassium!) Chia and hemp seeds are especially yummy in acai bowls (either blended in or as a topping) and are a great source of omega-3s and fiber Granola adds a satisfying crunch to acai bowls- I will post soon about a healthy granola recipe! For a more tropical taste, blend in frozen mango and add a little bit of coconut milk. The sweet fruits add an extra layer of flavor that pairs well with the acai berries. Top with more shredded coconut and fresh mango slices! Do you catch yourself craving something sweet constantly? Top your bowl with some cacao nibs, or drizzle a little bit of agave nectar or honey on top of your bowl to help satisfy your sweet tooth Blending in some peanut or almond butter makes an acai bowl even creamier and even more satisfying because of the protein in the nuts. You can also top the bowl with some toasted nuts for an added layer of crunch! Goji berries are a great topping, and are filled with amino acids, vitamin C, and fiber to help keep you full Acai bowls are a great post-workout snack because of they are packed with amino and fatty acids, which help with muscle regeneration Can’t find smoothie packs or acai powder to make a bowl? You can freeze acai juice (which is much easier to find) and use the frozen juice instead! I hope this post inspired you to go out and try to make your own bowls! Try out your own ingredients and toppings to see what you like the most. Happy (and healthy) living!

The Beauty of Açai in Brazil

Hey Friends. It’s been a while since a I last posted because I’m in Brazil on holiday and have been caught up in all the excitement and of course Jet lag! Anyway I have been mesmerised by all the wonderful and different healthy superfoods and fresh plants I have finding, so watch out for my next post regarding what I have found. 🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧🍧 To get to the point of this post, I have been eating lots of Açai in many forms, A) Shake B) Sorbet C) Açai bowl with fruits and nuts. Unfortunately Açai products in Asia are very limited and very very expensive. So I’m basically stuffing myself here! (Although I take Açai and green tea capsules everyday as a booster too) Facts about the Berry Grows in huge clusters in the Amazon rain forest Fruity red wine flavour One berry is around the same shape and colour as a dark red grape. High concentration of antioxidants It’s anti-ageing Boots immune system Great for heart health Good for digestion Naturally high in fatty acids High amount of amino acids High in vitamin C, A, B’s and E, calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper Promotes in healthy skin Can help irritation of the respiratory system Energy booster Can improve mental function I mean do you NEED more reasons to eat this delicious fruit!! If you can get your hands on it go for it!! That’s all friends Coconutandwhat 🌴🌰🌴

Acai Smoothie Breakfast Bowl

My all time favourite breakfast bowl. It’s true love. Unbreakable even. Smoothie bowls are great because you can get as many superfoods into your morning as you fit into a blender, plus you can fill yourself up on delicious fruit fibre and additional delicious toppings! It’s like having granola/muesli, but instead of milk, you have an antioxidant, superfood melody of delicious goodness. What a combo! I am having a total love affair with Acai at the moment and just can’t get enough of it. Acai is a powerful and nutritious super food that is incredibly high in antioxidants, polyphenols, anthocyanins, amino acids, dietary fibre as well as vitamins and minerals; including calcium, phosphorus, beta-carotene and vitamin E. Acai is great for the skin partly due to the fact it is rich in essential fatty acids omega-3,6 and 9 , as well as being incredibly high on the ORAC scale(Oxygen radical absorbance capacity). Originating from Brazil, this berry is well worth adding into your diet, not only for it’s beauty benefits, but also for its health effects and free radical busting capabilities. This one I added homemade Granola with cacao and maca oats – yum! So for one relatively large Acai smoothie bowl you shall need roughly: 1 + 1/2 frozen bananas * 1-4 – 1/2 cup berries – strawberries / raspberries / blueberries or a combination 1 TSP raw organic honey 1 TBSP Organic Acai Powder 2 TBSP Organic Chia Seeds 1 TSP Lucuma Powder (Optional – adds a caramel-like sweetness) 1-2 TSP Maca Powder (Optional) 400-500ml Almond milk / Coconut milk or half milk half water BLEND! Pour in to your most favourite bowl and decorate with your own combination of toppings. Mine includes: A Handful of Organic Goji berries A Handful of Organic Mulberries A Handful of Organic Cacao Nibs A Handful of Organic homemade granola or my current favorite brand – The Paleo Co. Granola My measurements are rough – it totally depends on how big you want your smoothie to be, or how much of what you prefer. Just experiment and see what you like the most :) * I chop up my bananas into halves and freeze them in big sandwich bags so I always have them at hand.
